Claim it freeAllegheny Wood Works is a trusted windows & doors provider serving the greater Erie area. With a commitment to quality, they deliver reliable windows & doors services to residential and commercial customers throughout Erie, Millcreek, Harborcreek, Fairview, and surrounding communities.
Energy efficiency is critical in Erie where winter temperatures average 28°F and over 100 inches of snow falls annually. Many homes in Little Italy, Glenwood, and Downtown Erie have original single-pane windows that drive up heating costs. Pennsylvania Uniform Construction Code requires all replacement windows to meet current energy standards.

They say when ordering something custom, you can choose two of three: Price, Quality, or Speed. My experience is that Allegheny Wood Works focuses on Excellent Price and Top Quality. ORDERING PROCESS: 4/5 Ordering process is not like click&buy off Amazon that we're all used to nowadays. You fill out a form from their website and work with someone over email to get an accurate quote. If you're not familiar with door lingo I'd recommend working with the contractor who's finishing/installing your doors to ensure you get what you want. This is a small company so you're getting direct contacts with people in Lake City PA which is really nice. DELIVERY 5/5: I had called a few weeks before delivery to check on order status but didn't hear back. But when the doors were ready to be shipped I got a call and email from AWW with specific delivery date. The doors arrived really well packaged; even the delivery driver commented on how well they were secured. AWW is very clear on the ordering packet but it bears repeating here. These doors are HEAVY and not easy to ship. Do yourself a favor and insist on checking the doors with the help of someone else to lift with you, BEFORE signing the delivery papers. I moved the doors to my workshop myself and can say from experience you really want a helper to move them with you. There's a bit of assembly required to create the jambs since they ship flat. But I prefer it that way anyways since it's easier to finish and seal them that way. PRICE 6/5: Listed on their website. Extremely attractive price for full wood solid doors. Other "apples to apples" quotes I received for the same style/species/size doors were about 2.5x the cost. SPEED 3/5: Lead time from order confirmation to arrival at my door was 17 weeks. I was not in a rush for replacement doors so this is fine for me. I understand they probably get a lot of calls asking for order status given the long lead times, but using an order tracker online would be nice to have. QUALITY: 5/5 The 10 doors I received arrived exactly how I ordered them. Profiles and dimensions were all dead on. As you might expect from solid wood doors, they feel very premium. Note that while they are constructed from 100% solid wood lumber, AWW uses a laminating process to construct the full door vs straight pieces of lumber. I feel this is the best of both worlds: minimizing warpage that old-style stile and rail doors experience, while keeping the premium feel of solid wood vs solid core doors. You'd be able to refinish the door a hundred times before exposing the underlying "core" of wood. I bought unfinished doors so my expectations going in were that I'd have to do a little sanding and prep work before staining and sealing. I can't comment on their finishing quality since I didn't order them finished, but the doors did arrive with significant wood dust still on them. I would have appreciated them blowing off the doors before packing. I also noticed some tearout on the latch prep drilling - will need a bit of filler there. Other than that minor quibble I'm thoroughly pleased with the door construction. They're dead flat according to my 6ft straightedge and square. Nicely beveled on the strike side too. BOTTOM LINE: 5/5 For custom made, solid wood doors, you can't beat their price at the quality of door I received. If I wasn't in a rush for doors but wanted excellent quality custom doors at an excellent price, I'd absolutely order from AWW every time. I will heartily recommend them to people I know.

Doors could have been nice if they packaged with more than paper and cardboard. Arrived several months behind schedule and damaged. They repaired some of the doors partially and unsatisfactorily. If you can pick them up yourself, they may be good. My experience was poor.

After waiting 4 months for custom doors, I was informed that my doors shipped, but when I didn’t hear from anyone to schedule delivery, I called the freight carrier just to find out the crate was recalled to the factory. After reaching out to Allegheny Wood Works, I was informed that they forgot to pack one of my doors in the crate so they called it back. When the crate finally did arrive, the last door had just ben set on top, not wrapped in any way and was damaged. Additionally, the other doors had chipping, splitting at seams, and worst of all the raised panels on the doors are crooked and off center. I called and emailed the company multiple times with photos AT THE TIME OF DELIVERY and have not heard back.

Would absolutely not recommend. Not only were they several weeks behind schedule, but they have terrible customer service. They were several weeks behind schedule and they don't even give an email or phone call to update the customer. Their customer service and sales team is very unprofessional. They miss emails, get details mixed up, and are very sloppy. We gave them the exact measurements for the door (verified by email and via phone multiple times) we needed and they sent us the incorrect door size. After spending a significant amount of money, they refused to work with us to make it right. They could care less about their customers. It's also very annoying that once the door finally arrives, you still have to seal it before install. Extremely frustrating process and company. Buy a door anywhere else.

I was excited to purchase two doors from this company because they seemed like the a company that cared about their product; seems like they are the best in their field. Whoever the woman was that answered your phone lost you a sale. She was rushed, didn't have a friendly tone (actually sounded more agitated that I called) and not helpful at all. I get that the RFQ is your best way to get the information you need for a sale but it's terrible customer service to just say that you can't help and to just fill out a RFQ - no offers to assist in what I am looking for, offers to help me understand exactly what *other* information you need, etc. With you competing against big chains like Home Depot and Lowe's, not the greatest first impression. I'll be taking my business elsewhere.
