Claim it freeB&S Contractor is a trusted chimney & fireplace provider serving the greater Erie area. With a commitment to quality, they deliver reliable chimney & fireplace services to residential and commercial customers throughout Erie, Millcreek, Harborcreek, Wesleyville, and surrounding communities.
Erie homeowners rely heavily on fireplaces and wood stoves during long, cold winters averaging 28°F. Lake-effect moisture accelerates chimney deterioration in neighborhoods like Downtown Erie, Glenwood, and Academy. Annual chimney inspections and cleanings are critical for fire safety, and Erie's freeze-thaw cycles can crack mortar joints and damage flue liners.

I was giving them a chance to make this right, but they are ignoring my calls. Called them in for a professional cleaning, as this is our 2nd winter in this house and we love the fireplace. Tech came out and told me he couldn't do the cleaning, because the firebox was damaged, and there was too much creosote buildup. He said there was a process they could do that would take half a day to deep clean the creosote, then they had a machine that would be placed above the damper and spray a ceramic coating to cover and reshape the Firefox, improving smoke removal and making it safe to use again. Gave them $1000 down and he said they would be out next Wednesday. Wednesday comes, and it's getting close to 4pm, and still no show for the half day job. So I call the office and the lady says they'll be there in half an hour. I had to make arrangements at my garage with another contractor, so I had to leave for about an hour total. When I returned they were there and gone already. Evidently the $2000 half day job was actually a 45minute job performed by a couple Mexicans that needed Google translate to ask my wife for the other $1000. No "machine" was used, just a brush and some plastic buckets. Total scam. They won't return my calls, so here's the review. I have a chimney brush, and I could have ordered a $75 bucket of ceramic goo from Amazon and even hired someone to do it for under $150. This wasn't even close to what was described. They slopped this stuff all over the fireplace. Scam artists.

I recently hired B&S Contractor to repair my gas fireplace after the pilot light stopped staying on. I had already replaced the thermocouple and thermopile myself but didn’t have time to finish the adjustments, so I scheduled a service appointment between 9 and 11 AM. At the last minute, I was informed the technician would be about four hours late. I had to go out of town, so my wife was home for the visit instead. Unfortunately, the experience was very disappointing. The technician (I believe his name was Daniel) was rude to my wife, didn’t listen to her when she tried to explain the issue using the notes I left, and made rude remarks. She was also embarrassed by his unprofessional appearance while he worked (his butt crack was showing). The technician claimed everything was fixed, but when I returned home, the fireplace still didn’t work. I called again, scheduled another appointment between 10 and noon, and asked that payment be held until the issue was resolved. I was told someone would call me back — no one ever did. On the day of the second appointment, no one showed up on time, and I had to call multiple times for updates. When the technician finally arrived, he only brought a box cutter and a Phillips screwdriver — no diagnostic tools. He claimed the thermopile was bad, but I had to show him how to test it properly using my voltmeter. The thermopile was fine; the actual issue was that the pilot light needed adjustment. Once I had him increase the flame, the fireplace worked correctly. I essentially ended up teaching the technician how to diagnose and fix the issue. It’s concerning that a service professional didn’t have the proper tools or knowledge to perform basic checks. This experience was very frustrating and unprofessional from start to finish. I hope the company reconsiders their training process — and offers a refund for what turned into me training their technician. I feel without diagnosed tools and not knowing how to use them, he may be replacing parts that don’t need to be replaced. I was glad I was home if it had been just my wife, I am not sure what would have been replaced or changed. I also experienced the butt crack issue.

Following a friend's recommendation, we contacted B&S Contractor And Chimney Sweep & Repair And Gas Fireplace Services Inc. and were astounded. Specialized experts took care of the dryer vent, chimney, fireplace, attic insulation, and air ducts. Every service was completed with care. They also repaired a few small roof leaks and prevented pests. We received a comprehensive report of the job completed with before-and-after photos, and every detail was recorded. We even received renovation advice from their contractor. This crew was friendly and professional from the time of booking until the cleanup. Don't waste time dealing with several vendors; this business handles everything well.
